When SSA first started foraying into the world of rice engineering in the 1960s, the Rice Mill Industry was still a cottage scale business with traditional steel blade dehusking machine which had the capacity of producing 6-10 tons per day. There were high brokens and the by-product could not be recovered.
It was in 1968, that ‘Modern Machineries Corporation’, to be known as Induss Food Products & Equipments Ltd. later, was set up as an agency house for selling modern rice milling equipment. It mainly dealt in rubber roll shellers and cone polishers. The promoters of this venture were Mr. V.S. Agarwal, Mr. Shirish Agarwal and Mr. Shanti Swarup Aggarwal. MMC sold the first modern milling plant in India in 1968. Brokens were visibly reduced by 50% and a lucrative by-product rice bran could be obtained from which edible oil was extracted. This brought in ‘modernisation of rice mills’ all over the country.
Even today, he dedicates his time and unparalleled energy in developing new technology and methods to enrich this industry and bringing maximum benefit to the rice mill owners.
Prof. Bal did his B.Tech (Agriculture Engineering) IIT, Kharagpur. He then did M.S. from Louisana State University, USA and Ph.D. in Agriculture Processing at IIT, Kharagpur. He then joined IIT as a Professor in 1966 and finally retired as HoD, Post Harvest Engineering Centre, IIT Kharagpur.
The Induss process and technology is being upgraded continuously with ongoing research under guidance of Professor Bal. Induss currently is doing 7 research projects on improved colour, soaking time, dust collection systems, power reduction and lower husk consumption.
The Induss legacy is being carried forward in the able hands of Mr. Ghosh – with more than 30 years of experience in Industrial Automation, Instrumentation, Turnkey Projects and Telecom Solutions.
He has played leadership roles in Sales and Marketing and led diverse teams in multinational companies over the years. Mr. Ghosh is the driving force between the vital transformation of Induss into a fully AI/ML based solution provider in the Rice Technology industry.
